Retainer questions.

Can I roll unused Shopify maintenance hours forward? +

Up to 50% of your monthly allowance can roll forward one month. Beyond that, hours expire — this keeps the cadence honest. Roll-over is calculated automatically and shown on every invoice.

What happens if I exceed my retainer hours? +

We tell you before continuing — never after. Overage is billed at your tier's blended rate; never at a higher penalty rate. Most months either come in under or land within ±10% of allowance.

Can I downgrade or pause my Shopify maintenance retainer? +

Yes. 30 days notice to downgrade, pause, or cancel. We do not do annual lock-ins. Many clients flex up before BFCM or campaigns and back down afterwards — that is what the tiers are for.

Do you handle Shopify Plus and multi-store retainers? +

Yes — on the Priority and Enterprise tiers. Multi-store, B2B, and headless builds add scope; we quote the retainer at onboarding based on your stack complexity rather than a flat hour count.

Will you migrate Scripts to Functions inside a maintenance retainer? +

Yes. Smaller migrations (1–4 Functions) come out of your monthly hours. Larger Scripts → Functions migrations (5+ Functions, checkout.liquid) we quote as a separate sprint and scope into the retainer cadence afterwards.

How much does a Shopify maintenance retainer cost? +

Lite: £499/month (8 hours, 24 hr SLA). Standard: £1,199/month (20 hours, 8 hr SLA). Priority: £2,199/month (40 hours, 4 hr SLA). Enterprise: POA (unlimited hours, 1 hr SLA, weekly calls). All tiers include changelog monitoring, app stack management, and PM oversight.

Do retainers include emergency or out-of-hours support? +

Standard and Priority tiers include 8-hour and 4-hour response SLAs respectively during UK business hours. Enterprise tier includes 1-hour SLA with out-of-hours coverage during BFCM and other peak windows. Out-of-hours coverage outside Enterprise is billed at 1.5× hourly rate.

What's included in monthly Shopify maintenance reports? +

Hours used vs allocated, what was shipped, app version updates applied, Shopify changelog items affecting your store, performance metrics (Core Web Vitals trend), and recommendations for next month. Reports are delivered as a single-page PDF on the 5th of each month.

Do you provide maintenance for Shopify apps you didn't build? +

Yes — we maintain apps built by third parties as long as we have access to the source code. We typically run a 1-week diagnostic at retainer start to map the codebase and document any technical-debt areas. The diagnostic is included in onboarding.

Can you fix our broken tracking after Checkout Extensibility? +

Yes — this is one of the most common silent revenue gaps we find. Stores migrated to Checkout Extensibility but never rebuilt their GA4 / Meta / TikTok / Klaviyo pixels on Shopify Web Pixels with the Customer Privacy API. We diagnose, rebuild on Web Pixels, wire up consent, and verify the funnel end-to-end. Typically 4–8 hours, included in any tier above Lite.

Do you build Shopify Flow automations as part of the retainer? +

Yes — Shopify Flow build-out is in scope on every tier. Common automations: high-risk order routing, VIP customer tagging, low-stock supplier alerts, post-purchase Klaviyo conditional flows, ERP fulfilment exceptions. Flow on its own covers about 70% of "we need a Zapier for that" requests, and runs inside Shopify with no extra subscription.
