The challenge.

Homewares Brand sells made-to-order pieces with up to fourteen configurable options per SKU — material, finish, dimension, hardware. The legacy storefront forced shoppers to call or email to confirm a build. Most never did.

AOV was £142 against a configurator-led benchmark of £200+. Cart abandonment sat at 78%. Customer service was buried under "is this configuration possible?" tickets.

Brief: build a configurator that calculates price live, validates combinations, and lets shoppers buy without picking up the phone.

Approach.

Week 1–2

Configuration model + pricing logic

Mapped 96 valid configurations across 12 product families. Defined pricing rules, surcharges, and exclusion sets in a Shopify metafield schema.

Week 3–4

Configurator UI + Functions

Bespoke configurator component with live preview. Shopify Functions for dynamic price calculation at checkout — no app fees, no JS-only pricing.

Week 5–6

Cart, checkout, fulfilment integration

Configuration data persisted as line-item properties. Studio fulfilment dashboard reads structured config — no more PDF specs.

Week 7–8

CRO sprint + soft launch

PDP A/B test on configurator placement and price-shown timing. Sticky summary on mobile. Soft launch with full analytics dashboard.
